Answer: (a)

Question :25

Not only did he criticise the party's policies but also the leader's personal affairs.

Answer: (c)

In the 'not only...but also' conjunction pair, it is necessary to see whether the subject and verbs are shared.

Option (c) would make 'He criticised' common, to both clauses, i.e., 'He criticised not only...but also...'.

Option (a) would be incorrect as only 'He' is shared. Then the sentence would have to be changed to 'He not only criticised...but also criticised...'.

If 'not only' is used at the beginning of a clause, subject auxiliary inversion is needed: 'Not only did he criticise the party's policies but he also criticised the leader's personal affairs'.
